Synopsis: An electric dog fence, also commonly called the invisible fence is a new fencing method that is better than the traditional one. There are so many methods that one can use to install an in-ground dog fence, but since technology has improved so much, it has made things to be better and easier.

There are so many pets that will wander away from the house and may get lost in the process. The owner of the pet will feel at ease when they know that their pet is secure in the compound. This can only happen when they are fenced in a secure yard. There are so many companies that can install one for the owner, but they aren't cheap.

The invisible fence will take just a few steps to set up. The first thing will be to mark the area that the person will want the hedge to border. This will help the person to determine the amount of wire they will need for the whole area. It is wise to measure they area first to determine how much wire you will need.

The next thing will be to know where the underground utilities are before you start digging so that you do not break any lines. You do not want to run the fence wire parallel to any phone or cable lines as this will interfere with the fence signal. Its best to cross and utility lines at a 90 degree angle.

After you get your wire all laid out where you want it you can begin digging a small trench a few inches deep along side the wire. For larger properties we recommend renting a power edger or a small trencher. Most rental companies also have attachments that will allow you to dig the trench, feed the wire in and back fill it at the same time. Please note that the wire does not need to be buried. Some people simply lay it on top of the ground and tack it down with lawn staples. It is recommended that it buried so that it doesn't get broken or cut by a lawn mower and its a bit more pleasing to the eye.

Some electric dog fences, like the Dogtra EF-3000 Gold, Innotek IUC-4100 and the Innotek IUC-5100 Contain N Train have rechargeable collars, and brands such as PetSafe and SportDog use repleacable batteries. Once you have all the wire sorted out it will be time to turn your new pet containment system on and check the boundary so that you will know where to place the training flags. You will do this by simply walking the fence perimeter and listening for the warning tone that is omitted from the collar when it gets to close the wire signal. Just follow this around the entire perimeter and stick a flag in the ground every few feet. These flags are only a visual for your dog and use only during the training phase. Once your dog learns its boundaries they can be removed.

After these steps are completed you electric dog fence is installed and you are now ready to begin training! The person installing the electric dog fence should follow all the instructions that have been given by the manufacturer. Also, if you need additional help, there will be a toll free number to the manufacture inside the owners manual. Manufactures have operators standing by to help with installation and professional dog trainers on staff that will help you train your dog to stay inside the fence boundary.

An electric dog fence will go a long way in ensuring that the animal will not go to those areas that it is not allowed to and also from getting lost.
