Dogtra ARC
The Dogtra ARC is the latest and greatest collar from Dogtra. It features a low profile receiver collar that is shaped to your dog’s neck, providing improved reliability when applying corrections. Checkered grips on the handheld transmitter make sure you always have a firm grip, making sure you are always fully in control. The ARC is a low to medium output e-collar designed for all breeds over 12 lbs. with soft or medium temperments.

Testing the collar
Even though you get a test light with your e-collar, we always recommend testing the collar on yourself so that you will know what your dog feels. You can do this by setting the stim level to zero, placing the collar around your forearm so that the probes make contact with the inside of your arm (do not test the collar on your neck) and slowly increase the level while tapping on the Nick button. You will quickly find that there is only a harmless pulse that is startling but not painful. Keep in mind that dog skin is much thicker then human skin so your dog will not feel as much as you will and will need higher levels.
Vibration only training
Depending on which model you choose, by consistently using the vibration or tone only button before static correction your dog will quickly learn to avoid the static correction by responding to vibration or tone only.
Collar range
Range is “line-of-site”. To get the full manufacturer stated range, you should be able to clearly see your dog across a field or park in clear weather. Tree's, hills, structures and even weather conditions such as snow and rain will cut the range down considerably. To maximize the transmit range you should hold the remote as high as possible above your head.
Always select a collar that has at least double the range of what you think you need. It's better to more range and not need then less range amd need it.
Fitting the collar
When fitting the collar on your dog, be sure it’s high and snug on the neck, just below the ears. It should be snug enough so that it doesn’t slide around. You should be able to slide two fingers underneath the strap.
Collar strap
With the exception of DT Systems collars, receiver-collar antennas are inside the receiver box and not inside the collar strap. If your dog is fully grown you can cut off any excess strap with scissors. If your dog is still growing don’t forget to leave room for this.
Collar-Wise
Before using the collar, let your dog wear it around for several hour per day for at least 1 week so that he gets used to it. Put it on just before play time or going for a walk so that your dog associates it with fun-time. If you use the collar right away your dog could become “collar wise”, meaning that the dog will know when the collar is on and he has to listen to your commands and when it is off and he doesn’t have to listen. The point of using an electronic dog training collar is that your dog associates the correction with the behavior and not from you and the collar.
Finding the correct level
After your dog has become accustom to wearing the collar around with his normal collar, take your dog to a quiet place, turn the stimulation level to zero and begin tapping on the button while closely watching your dog. When your dog shows the slightist sign of feeling the stimulation, such as looking at you or scratching at the collar, you have found the correct level. Of course you may need to turn the level higher during high distraction situations.
Manufacturers include owner’s manuals with their products but most do NOT provide any type of training material on how to properly use an e-collar to teach basic commands and resolving behavioral issues.
